One crazy birthday
Friday morning arrived and the labour ward conceded that 4 days of ineffective contractions were enough and gave us a time slot for a C-section. Around this time it started to snow in London, the first time in over a year; this was going to be a memorable birthday! With the end in sight, we took our time and carefully made our way to hospital through the increasing blizzard.
Once there, we gowned up and waited…..for another 3 hours while the theatre became free. It seems a lot of people were having babies that day. Midwives, surgeons, and anaesthetists came and went, each filling out their forms and talking us through the process. Finally, Sup signed the consent form and we were ready. The surgical team were confident and relaxed, even offering us the chance to choose a C-section playlist. Sup of course chose R&B and to the sounds of Beyonce, Rihanna, and Kanye West, the doctors got on with the business of delivering a baby.
Finally at 15:34pm, little Nisha Russell was born weighing a dainty 3.030kg, slightly lighter than her brother Nikhil.
A beautiful baby girl with all the right appendages in all the right places. One very happy daddy and one mummy in good shape considering the need to recover from the slight tummy tuck which goes along with this kind of thing. Surgeon Gabby gave us a debrief, it seems the operation went well and Supraja had very little internal scarring from Nikhil’s slightly rushed exit 3 years ago so if we wanted we could have number 3 … OMG no way!!
